FARMING WITH NATURE. NOT AGAINST IT.

Using new technologies to help build resilience for farmers, farms and the environment

OUR MISSION

Through utilising modern technology, our mission is to design a new farming method that is environmentally and financially sustainable for farmers.

We’re in our early days of development but read on to learn about our theory.

THE PROBLEM

Current intensive farming methods create a monoculture, making crops we produce more susceptible to disease, pests and extreme weather events. They require the use of increasingly expensive machinery, fuel, sprays and fertiliser to maintain crop yields, all at the expensive of the soil health, local ecosystem, environment and our health. Unless something changes the long-term future of these methods is unsustainable both from a business and environmental perspective.

FINANCIAL

AVERAGE UK FARMER INCOME FELL BY 9.7% IN 2023

ENVIROMENTAL

33% OF GREENHOUSE GAS EMMISIONS ARE CAUSED BY ARGICULTURE

SOIL HEALTH

IN THE UK 30 FOOTBALL PITCHES OF TOPSOIL LOST EVERY MINUTE

CROP HEALTH

TODAY’S WHEAT HAS MORE STARCH, BUT UP TO 40% LESS IRON AND ZINC THAN IT DID 40 YEARS AGO

NO SPRAYS.

NO FERTILISER.

MINIMAL SOIL DISTURBANCES.

JUST MOWBOT.

Our novel farming system builds on the principles of interrow cropping and minimal soil disturbance. At its core is a permanent under-sown green canopy, which is periodically trimmed by our autonomous inter-row mowing machine, ‘Mowbot’. This process returns nutrients to the soil, reduces competition for commercial crop to grow and helps build organic matter over time.

By naturally feeding the crop in this way, we aim to improve its resilience to disease, while the diversity of the green canopy should help to discourage one pest dominating. Ultimately, this approach has the potential to reduce—or even remove—the need for chemical sprays and fertilisers.

Currently we’ve completed a first year of trials, developing ‘Mowbot’, the under sown crop species, the cutting regime and the drilling method. All of which we’re eager to improve to get the best return from the commercial crop.

OUR SOLUTION

THE TECHNOLOGY

Introducing Mowbot 1.0 - the first step toward delivering the benefits of our farming method.

Using off the shelf RTK GPS guidance, we’re able to control its movements with centimeter-level accuracy - allowing us to selectively cut weeds whilst leaving the crop to grow.

We’ve just finished its first trials and are excited about its potential, but further development is needed to bring it to a commercial scale.
